“a first model training unit configured to train a first machine learning model using training data including a pair of a first spectrogram generated from a single tone source and information on a corresponding pitch, the first machine learning model being configured to output a first feature map indicating a predicted probability of a pitch corresponding to an inputted spectrogram”

“Specifically, (the design check unit 220) trains each agent so that the agent gives a higher reward to, for example, a case in which the agent was able to smoothly move, a case in which the agent was able to stay more comfortably, or the like to maximize the comfort of action (to minimize stress associated with action)”

“the control device 4 may be configured to, when receiving data on the drive current of the injection servo motor 50, determine whether the ball screw 51 is normal, using a state determination learning model trained to output data indicating whether the ball screw 51 is normal”

“the processor predicts the sales volume of products of a target store using a trained model generated on the basis of data on the sales volumes of products of stores among which products to be handled can partially vary and configured to predict the sales volume of products”

その場合は、”this lead to a (the) problem that 又は“this results in a (the) problem that と訳しています。

“In this case, images captured by the cameras at the same position are given different frame numbers.  This leads to a problem that when playing the moving images captured by the cameras, the same position is played at different timings.”

“When the Chinese herbal extract powder content of the tablets is increased, the excipient content is reduced.  This results in a problem that tablet hardness is reduced.

“During display of video on a liquid crystal display, the liquid crystal molecules themselves respond slowly.  This results in a problem that an afterimage occurs or the video is blurred.”

“The voice interaction apparatus collects not only a voice of the speaker but also a voice other than the voice of the speaker.  This lead to a problem that it is difficult to improve the voice recognition accuracy of the voice interaction apparatus even if the volume of a response voice can simply be set in accordance with the volume of the input voice.”

最も一般的には“Thus (or hence), … can be …” Thus (or hence), it is possible to ”は少し固い印象を与えると思います。

その場合、その都度“Thus (or hence), … can be …”

そこで、私は適宜“This allows (for) …”

“This allows adjustment of the gas supply conditions using the estimated accurate amount of evaporation in the boiler and thus stabilization of the amount of evaporation in the boiler”

“This allows for improvements in the dust resistance and anticorrosive properties of the distortion gauges 41 to 44”

“This allows for correction of the field curvature and distortion of the imaging optical lenses, as well as allows for shortening of the backfocus of the imaging optical lenses and thus downsizing of the imaging lens systems.”

“the cylindrical electrode 1 may also have any shape as long as the first flow path F1 can be formed therein”

“the peeling film 5 may be any type of peeling film as long as it has peelability with respect to the conductive adhesive layer 4

”while, in the above embodiment, the nozzle 2 is inserted in the cylindrical electrode 1, it need not be inserted therein”

“while the shield containing body 10 is formed over the entire peripheral of the open face, it need not be formed in this way”

“the shield containing body 10 need not include the insulating layer 2”

the main and backup track information A and B is passed to serial to parallel converters 20a and 20b and sync finder circuitry 21a 21b”

そのようなとき、私は初出時にsets of … information A and B”またはpieces of … information A and B”のように複数形にしています。

Sets of encrypted attribute information 16-1, 16-2, 16-3, and 16-4 are provided to an encrypted content data generation device 2 and encrypted content data playback devices 3a, 3b, and 3c, respectively, …

Imagine that we had developed two sets of information, A and B, each composed of four stimuli.” (http://www.acrwebsite.org/search/view-conference-proceedings.aspx?Id=9668)

Both pieces of information A and B are present in the premises.”

Since in this example the sets of memory information 170-1 and 170-2 are respectively reserved for use by processes executing on a respective processors 110-1 and 110-2, …” (US  Patent No. 6,799,236 B1)

An element or part of an electronic device (as an amplifier) Merriam-Webster

An element or a group of elements in a complex arrangement of parts, especially a single tube or transistor and its accessory components in an amplifier (American Heritage)

A transistor is used as the output stage of an amplifierのように訳します。実際はTransistors are used in the output stage of an amplifierのようにstageを集合的に考えてinを使うのが一般的なようです。

A diode is disposed in (or as) a stage preceding (following) a converterでもいいですが、A diode is disposed so as to precede (follow) a converterのように段を省略してもいいと思います。

A capacitor is coupled to the preceding stage (subsequent stage) of an amplifierではなく、A capacitor is coupled to the input stage (output stage) of an amplifierのようになります。 A capacitor is coupled to the input (output) of an amplifierのような簡略的表現が圧倒的に多く使われています。

Bipolar transistors and FETs can also be used as the output stage of microelectronic control circuits – e.g. a 555 timer. (http://www.core.form-ula.com/page/23/?s=rem)

the amplifier includes a slew rate enhancement circuit operatively coupled to the input stage of the amplifier (US Patent 6657496 )

a first transconductance equalizer connected to the output stage of said first power amplifier (US Patent 4991221)

if an object or substance transmits sound or light, it allows sound or light to travel through or along it (Longman)

to cause (as light or force) to pass or be conveyed through space or a medium (Merriam-Webster)

「光が~を透過する」の場合には、「pass through」の他に「penetrate (through or into)

transmission of light through」で55万7千件、「passage of light through」で32万7千件、「penetration of light into」で12万7千件ヒットします。

determine the Sumida Ward as a candidate location for the Tokyo Skytree

reference time determination means configured to determine a point in time when the phases extracted by the phase extraction means are matched and to determine the determined point in time as the reference time

reference time determination means configured to determine a point in time when the phases extracted by the phase extraction means are matched, as the reference time

an embedded microprocessor coupled to the analog to digital converter and configured to calculate the flow rate as a function of the digital output (US Patent 6725731)

a calculation unit configured to calculate the threshold as a variance of timing of multiple other ONUs in the PON or ODN (US Patent Application No. 20090028553)

in response to (or responsive to) receiving an access start request from the mobile terminal

in response to (or responsive to) the service specification means specifying a service,

in response to specification of a service by the service specification means

・「in response to receiving the electronic acceptance of the new open position from the worker」(US Patent No. 7945468

・「in response to the user performing the first operation, automatically updating the …」(US Patent 6222538

・「responsive to the router receiving preauthorization from the controller to utilize a prescribed set of virtual sequential data storage locations,」(US Patent 6880040

・「in response to the application of a magnetic field by the magnetic field source」(US Patent 7834468

・「to control the switching element so that the control terminal is selectively coupled to the high voltage side of the battery(US 20090208819)

・「to control the voltage source so that a frequency of the RF voltage substantially matches the resonant frequency of the resonant cavity」(US 20090140671

・「to control the second switch so that AC power is delivered to the second outlet a predetermined amount of time after AC power is delivered to the first outlet」(US 20090236913

例えば、「Any type of device, which can keep the contents, may be used.」

A, which has B」の場合、Aは固有名詞や1つしかないもの、またはそれまでの文脈で特定される普通名詞であり、そのABという属性を持っていることを表しています。

The TactileSense polymer is placed on top of the silicon camera, which is embedded within glass to provide hardness and durability. (US Patent Application No. 20080317302)

・「the Senate on Thursday passed the America Invents Act, which is being called the most sweeping patent reform in half a century. (http://www.law.com/jsp/cc/PubArticleCC.jsp?id=1202514170593)

・「By 2001, when the IPCC issued its Third Assessment Report,(http://www.utexas.edu/features/2010/04/05/assisted_migration-2/)

前回のTIPと関連していますが、クレームの中の「~上に配置されたn個(nは2以上の整数)のトランジスタと、」のような表現を、そのまま「n (n is an integer of two or more) number of transistors disposed on ;」のように訳したものをネット上で見かけることがあります。

正しくは「n number of transistors disposed on , n being an integer of two or more;」、または「n number of transistors disposed on , wherein n is an integer of two or more;」のようになります。

これは日本語の技術表現としては一般的だと思いますが、この場合、翻訳者はそのまま、「If (or When) is (or is defined as) A and is (or is defined as) B, the voltage V is obtained by Formula (1): V = AB (1)」のように訳してしまうことがよくあります。

The voltage V is obtained by Formula (1): V = AB (1)

where (or wherein) A represents (or denotes) ; and B represents (or denotes) .」

The voltage V is obtained by Formula (1): V = AB (1). In Formula (1), A represents ; and B represents .

・「the number of host compressed data records per physical block is determined according to a formula, ((A-B)*C)/D, wherein A is a physical block size on the sequential access storage medium in bytes, B is … (US Patent Application No. 20110276753)

・「Cmn = ∑k = 0Nβkrmkz-ΔmkCmn(θk),m,nε{L,R}   (4)
where N is the total number of planar surfaces... In formula (4), k denotes ...
(US Patent Application 20110268281 )

・「The phase difference δ may be used for calculating the dissipation factor (DF) of the capacitor string using the formula:
DF = tanδ = Xp/Rp = G/ωRpCp = Iloss/Ic  Equation 1
where Xp is the parallel reactance of the capacitor string, Rp is ...

・「であると判断される」の「is determined to be」

それまでは、「if it is determined in step 102 that the password is invalid」のようにオーソドックスに訳していました。 また、私の知る限り、英和辞典の「determine」には、「is considered to be」(とみなされる)「is believed to be」(とみられる)のような用法は載っていません。

It was determined that she had died of natural causes.Oxford

Experts have determined that the signature was forged.Longman

一方、グーグルの検索では、「is determined to be * in step」で約5260万、「is determined in step * to be」でも約724万出てきます。

it is determined that the password is invalid (8ワード)

the password is determined to be invalid (7ワード)

If the identification presented by the user is determined to be valid, in step 320 US Patent Application 20110119186

・「if the status of the data device is determined to be inactive in step i) US Patent 6934861

if the conditioning is determined not to be complete in step (k) US Patent 6291252

・「if such person is determined to have been ineligible for payment for such travel US Code Title 38

・「if the independent claim is determined to be invaid」 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claim_(patent)

・「to join together two parts of something, for example two vehicles or pieces of equipment(Oxford)

・「to join or fasten two things together(Longman)

・「to connect for consideration together; to bring (two electric circuits) into such close proximity as to permit mutual influence (Merriam-Webster)

・「[ELECTRICITY] to bring (two electric circuits or circuit components) close enough to permit an exchange of electromagnetic energy」(American Heritage

connect」の方は、

・「to join together two or more things; to be joined together; [ELECTRICITY/GAS/WATER] connect something (to something) to join something to the main supply of electricity, gas, water, etc., or to another piece of equipment; [INTERNET] to join a computer to the Internet or a computer network(Oxford)

・「to join two or more things together(Longman)

・「to join or fasten together usually by something intervening(Merriam-Webster)

・「to join, link, or fasten together; to establish communication betweenAmerican Heritage

[chemistry] Joining of two molecules.
[electricity] To connect two circuits so signals are transferred from one to the other.
[electronics] Two metals placed in contact, as in a thermocouple.
[engineering] To connect with a coupling, such as of two belts or two pipes.
[mechanics] A system of two parallel forces of equal magnitude and opposite sense.

[ELECTRICITY] Connected by means of a conducting path, or through a capacitor, as distinguished from connection merely through electromagnetic induction.

transistor is connected to * through」の294万に対し、「transistor is coupled to * through」は128万、「transistor is directly connected to」の8.7万に対し、「transistor is directly coupled to」は0.5万です。また、「is electrically connected to」の836万に対し、「is electrically coupled to」は503万です。

ただし、「is connected to the wireless LAN」の3200万に対し、「is coupled to the wireless LAN」は0、「is connected to a mobile phone」の4630万に対し、「is coupled to a mobile phone」は4件(通信の意味では1件)です。

… when an element is referred to as being "connected to" or "coupled to" another element, it can be directly connected or coupled to the other element or intervening elements may be present. In contrast, when an element is referred to as being "directly connected to" or "directly coupled to" another element, there are no intervening elements present.」(http://xenakisele01.blog65.fc2.com/blog-entry-1523.html

Oxford』には、4番目の意味として、「to prevent something from growing, developing or continuing」とあり、「drugs that suppress the appetite」という用例があります。

Merriam-Webster』には、5番目に「a: to restrain from a usual course or action <suppress a cough> b: to inhibit the growth or development of」とあります。

American Heritage』には、6番目に「To reduce the incidence or severity of (a hemorrhage or cough, for example)」とあります。

・「・・・の~情報」は、「~ information of ・・・」か「information on the ~ of ・・・」か

「携帯端末の位置情報」は、正確には、「携帯端末の位置に関する情報」、または「携帯端末の位置を表す情報」だと思いますから、文法的には「information on (or about) the location of the mobile terminal」、または「information indicating the location of the mobile terminal」が正しい言い方ではないかと思います。

グーグルでの検索数は、「obtain location information of」の約12万件に対し、「obtain information on the location of」は約2900万件です。「provide location information of」が約65万件なのに対し、「provide information on the location of」は約13900万件です。

「information on the location of」より2語節約できます。

「obtain information on the location of the mobile terminal」では一件も出ません。「transmit location information of the mobile terminal」では、4件中3件が韓国系、1件は仏系です。

一方、米国のAT&THPにも「・・・to enable enterprise customers to access location information of their customers・・・」という記述があります。

・「であればよい」は、「is preferably」、「may be」、あるいは「is required to be」か

したがって、「a coil spring 27 is required to be a tension spring …」

「~であるように・・・する」は、「so that」か「in such a manner that」か

「in such a manner that」でしょうか。

私も一時期in such a manner thatで訳していましたが、最近やたらと短い表現を好むようになり、an insulating film is formed on the substrate so that it is thicker than the conductive filmのように訳してしまいます。

しかし考えてみると、我々は中学校のとき、so thatcanwill、あるいはmayを中に入れて「目的」を表わすと教わります(例えば、Study hard so that you can pass the exam.)。

したがってこの場合は、少し長いですが、「~の形態で」の意味の「in such a manner that」を使って、an insulating film is formed on the substrate in such a manner that it is thicker than the conductive filmのように訳すのが文法的には正しいと思います。

参考例

a fixed electrode is formed on the substrate in such a manner that the fixed electrode faces the movable electrode (http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6028332/claims.html)

the light reflects off the mirror in such a manner that the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflectionhttp://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/refln/u13l1c.cfm

all aspects of the analysis should be presented in such a manner that the decisionmaker can completely understand the results of the analysis and the methods by which the results were derived (http://www.epa.gov/ttn/ecas/econdata/Rmanual2/9.2.html)

ただし、実際の使用頻度は、例えば、「~であるように・・・を生成する」をGoogleなどで検索すると、「is formed so that」の方が「is formed in such a manner that」よりずっと多く出てきます。
